This course is designed to equip Seventh Day Adventist Medical Missionaries (or any one interested in health- Certified Nurse Assistants, Home Health Aides, Pastors, Lifestyle Center workers or owners, mother , father-etc.) with the knowledge and information to build skills needed to serve and minister for to the sick and suffering. This will provide you with pertinent information on medical terminology, assessment skills, and emergency medical information to help you recognize and fulfill care needs in various contexts, (home, work or community). It is tantamount to giving you the knowledge of a trained health provider without the legal implications of diagnosis or treatment. At the end of the course, it is the hope that the students will recognize their offering as medical missionaries and properly identify themselves as equipped by God's grace to finish the work as the right arm of the Gospel.

Hi I'm Jasseth!

Most people call me "Jass."

I'm a Board Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner. I have training and certification as OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner in Women's Health and Asthma, Allergy and Immunology. I currently work as a Primary Care Provider seeing patients from months' old to the elderly.

I am a wife and mother as well, and a Seventh-day Adventist Christian who loves the Lord Jesus Christ and believes He is coming soon.

This course is born out of a burden of many years that I believe the Lord has placed on my heart. This burden is, I believe that SDA Medical Missionaries should go a little further than the basic knowledge of simple remedies and application of herbs to learn more about recognizing abnormalities that cause diseases.

"As religious aggression subverts the liberties of our nation, those who would stand for freedom of conscience will be placed in unfavorable positions. For their own sake, they should, while they have opportunity, become intelligent in regard to disease, its causes, prevention, and cure. And those who do this will find a field of labor anywhere. There will be suffering ones, plenty of them, who will need help, not only among those of our own faith, but largely among those who know not the truth."

Ellen G. White

In this lesson, we will be exploring the important skill of identifying normal versus abnormal conditions and diseases for medical missionaries. As medical missionaries, it is crucial for you to be able to distinguish between normal variations in health and signs of potential diseases or abnormal conditions in the communities you serve. This knowledge will enable you to provide appropriate care and interventions to those who need it the most.

First and foremost, it is essential to have a solid understanding of what is considered normal in terms of health. This includes knowing the range of vital signs, such as heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and body temperature, that are typical for different age groups. Recognizing these normal ranges allows you to identify any deviations and potentially detect underlying conditions or diseases. For example, if we encounter a person with a significantly elevated heart rate, it may be an indication of an infection or cardiovascular problem that requires immediate attention.

Furthermore, being able to recognize the signs and symptoms of common diseases prevalent in the communities we serve is vital. By knowing what to look for, we can accurately offer care or referral for these conditions, preventing further complications and improving the overall health outcomes for individuals. It is crucial to stay updated with the latest information to ensure we are well-equipped to identify these diseases.

"I am deeply interested in the subject of medical missionary work, and the education of men and women for that work. I could wish that there were one hundred nurses in training where there is one. It ought to be thus. Both men and women can be so much more useful as medical missionaries than as missionaries without the medical education. I am more and more impressed with the fact that a more decided testimony must be borne upon this subject, that more direct efforts must be made to interest the proper persons, setting before them the advantages that every missionary will have in understanding how to treat those who are diseased in body, as well as to minister to sin-sick souls. This double ministration will give the laborer together with God, access to homes, and will enable him to reach all classes of society"
